Hi neighbors,
Keweenaw has good suggestions about where to stay. If you like fishing the campgrounds he indicated should be good for that also.

Re: First timer to Isle Royale -need help with trip planning
Midwest Ed has a good idea take your time and enjoy yourselves. Perhaps day 1-Daisy Farm, day 2- Moskey Basin, day 3 - Chippewa Harbor, day 4- W. Chickenbone, day 5- McCargoe. The ferry boat can pick you up there at McCargoe and return you to Rock Harbor. I'm 66 and I try not to do a fast trip. You ...

Re: First Trip To IR- Questions, Questions, Questions!!!
Saw mama moose and twins on the 30th of June at about 9:15 pm at Washington Creek (near Windigo). On the 1st of July after we got up, there was barking east of us (remember no dogs allowed). We came across very fresh wolf scat west of McCargoe heading toward Todd Harbor on the Minong Ridge trail.

Re: June/July 2010 Minong
I'll have to get my notes together and post my TR. The Minong is a challenge, but I'd do it again if I have a chance to come back. I had a person who knows how to use a compass with me.

Re: Itinerary questions for a first visit
Options 2 and 3 are do able. I'm old and just did N. Desor to Washington Creek with a detour. I'm sure either way you go is going to be fine. Bring a head net and deet, just in case. Mom and her twins (Moose) should be visiting when you get to Washington Creek. Enjoy.

If you're taking the Queen back, it looks like a nice trip. Should be okay.

Re: Security of Packs at Campsites
We left our gear in shelter 6 at McCargoe for more then three hours so that we could do the Chickenbone loop as a day hike. We had no problems except with the bugs.

Re: Bugs not a problem
I just got back yesterday from ISRO. Last Saturday the flies were a pain, especially the one that got me in the arm. And those little blood suckers (Mighty Ms) were on the Minong trail (June 27-30). Thank God for my head net. The wind from the north when we were on the ridges didn't help much either.

Re: Minong
I'm back and plan to post my trip report for this year sometime in the near future. I finally hiked the Minong all the way. Why doesn't the Windigo store have a shirt that says, "I've survived the Minong!" ? More later.

Thanks! I needed that. Great report and I appreciate the pictures. Heading out for Grand Portage tomorrow morning at 6:30. 900+ miles, but worth it.

Re: Bugs mid June Report
Some of those trees that were down between Daisy Farm and 3-mile may be some that were down last year.
