Re: Minong Water Sources
There might be. There might not be. Plant to carry what you'll need until you get to Washington Creek.

Re: A comprehensive question
Portages too, Kelly? That complicates the logistics considerably---but maybe if you recruit companions who are paddlers, you can hitch (and help with portaging!) for part of their trips. I didn't even know there were passage island trails---I guess I've never fully unfolded the NatGeo map. A very i...

Re: A comprehensive question
If I could only afford a way to give that a try next summer! For me, the time part is usually manageable. For that length of time, it would be nice to have different companions along the way, as it's unlikely that I'll find someone who can/wants to do the whole thing with me. Currently the standard...

Re: A comprehensive question
Huh. Was he in a hurry (or is that a whiff of a tale)? Did he bother to include Passage Island?
I'm exploring this intriguing idea. It seems doable at my usual pace if I have at least four weeks.

A comprehensive question
Is anyone familiar with a person who has hiked all of the trails in the park in a single visit?

3. Why have I never heard anyone mention the beautiful waterfall along the Feldtmann trail?[/b] There's a gorgeous spot where a beaver pond drains out over a wall of sandstone, making a lovely (and not tiny) waterfall. I swear I've never heard anyone mention it before! Maybe I'm just oblivious? So ...

The binder of information that torpified reference is also available here. I've found it to be quite thorough.

TopCarrot: I really debated this one.
Ingo: lucky you!
I would have gotten the same for Michigan, but someone already has that.
So I went for this instead:

It being a beautiful day to stay inside and read a trip report, I read yours and thoroughly enjoyed it. I love the phrase "the freedom of wet feet" and now I have a name for that. I'm also pinning for the island and reading your report has me planning next year's trip already. It's never ...

Re: TR: 5/30-6/12, 2022 [Hiking] Minong Ridge Trail E>W
I appreciate the detailed trip report. I was particularly drawn in by a couple of your comments about trail improvements - for years the Minong (originally just a fire cut) was managed as a mostly-unimproved, minimally maintained trail, for the most adventurous and strong hikers. I'm not sure if th...

What a fantastic TR! It must have been very gratifying to resolve the mystery of Wolfgang. I count 12 days all together. (I am not a good counter.) Does that mean you scaled the 87 blowdowns on Day 2 with 10 days' (= ?? pounds) worth of food in your pack?? The note card is an excellent idea! Bullet...

Wrapping up
Some notes: I frequently wore a head net and bug spray from day one. Mosquitoes often existed, and so did what TC called "eyeball-targeting" insects. Bigger than gnats. No black flies prior to departure on June 12. Next time I'll include a notecard in my pack for questions for rangers and ...
