Re: TR: 7/16/17 to 7/22/17 - Windigo to RH

Great report, thanks! Took a trip with my young adult daughter this summer. It's great to have something in common to transition into their adult life!

Re: TR 9/5-9/11 2017 Windigo to Rock Harbor

I'd love to see some photos of these dam(n) crossings. This is a video I watched before going that shows a before and after of the most Easterly (and not the worst) one. It's all worth watching, but the dam specific part starts near time index 8:20 https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=PMq8-8yuTbg Paul Sen...

TR 9/5-9/11 2017 Windigo to Rock Harbor

Great trip report, thank you! I went across them in early August going east to west. Trekking poles were important from Todd harbor on, critical from little Todd on. I fell back once on the last dam but it was on the dam itself so my pride got more soaked than anything else.. except my feet [emoji23...

Re: NCT / Mantistee, take 2

First of all, thank you. I love the detailed report and photos. Using the link at the bottom of the report I was able to open the photobucket site and squint through the tiles. Using the links I could tie the report photo number to the photobucket site. So +- some PB spamming, it put it back togethe...

NCT / Mantistee, take 2

I realize there is a recent thread here on the NCT / Mantistee in this subforum, but I'm looking at close but different stretch to try in May of next year . I'm thinking of starting down by US10 and going straight through up to M55/Caberfae Hwy at the north end of the Udell Hills. The goals are a sc...

Re: Red River Gorge in Kentucky

Hi Larry That sounds good. I looked at the area again in gaia and proposed a route. I plotted it out on a public gaia map . Its been a long time for me since I've been there and I enjoyed the visit by map :D (You don't need a gaia account or to log in just to look at the map i published.) I fit in t...

Re: Red River Gorge in Kentucky

I grew up in Cinci and many of my early backpacking trips were in the Red River Gorge. Things have changed a lot trail and access wise, but here are my recommendations having been on sections of this or on similar terrain. You will need to arrange drop offs as they look to be one way stretches now. ...

Re: TR: 1Sept-6Sept 2017 [RH to Windigo to RH]

Nice! Some really long days! Glad you go through the rain and not feeling well. We hiked through in the rain a couple of days and ended up soaked at the campsite... that's difficult!

Thanks for the reports and all of the pictures and videos, really enjoyed it!

Re: Drop off

Sure, Paul. I am planning to post a detailed report. Will include the food drop off experience too. I shipped my package! There was issue on the mailing address at USPS, but quick call to the Voyageur II was helpful. By the way, what is the store hours? If it is not until 9, then I will probably ta...

Re: Senior Pass

Yes. I'm close to, but not quite ready for the Senior Pass. Because its unlikely I will go to another NP this year, I bought the Isle Royale specific pass

Have fun on your trip. I just went in August and i want to go back right now!

Re: Water sources/Stream in Minong trail

We recently (8/6 - 8/8) did the Minong east to west. We were fine from McCargoe to Little Todd, with a water fill up at Todd. There were several good streams but they weren't needed. If you won't be stopping at Little Todd and hiking the half mile down to the camp, then water up at the stream crosse...

Re: MI-based UL gear cottage industry!

Thanks, please do. I planning a trip on the NCT through Manitisee May-ish of next year. Which means there is a bear canister (the first for me) in my future, I'm still leaning towards the long haul for that reason. Will pull the trigger between October and Christmas, and would certainly value the in...

Re: Senior Pass

Hard to believe, but true. A park pass is all you need to pay for and have to be on the Island. If you're camping, even at your own backcountry sites; there is a form that they will fill out with you to document where you're going, but no fee is charged; you just need to show your park pass. If you ...

Re: Itinerary for 9-4 to 9-10 Feedback/answers

I think your routes sound good. For sleeping bags, fyi: Based on the forecast alone , you are right on the temperature edge with your 50 degree sleeping bags. I just backpacked there August 5th - 11th. My bag's comfort range is 45 and I had at least one night where I woke up feeling a little cool. I...
