Re: Obnoxious boaters
Redbad-well said. However boaters do not take over docks. When you visit a dock with a boat tied up try to think of it as visiting another campsite or shelter. The dock is there as a site for a boat. When a backpacker visits a dock they are visiting another campers picinic table. Myself, I would nev...

Re: kayak trip possable?
A Pungo 120 should easily carry everything an average size backpack would and then some, so a weeks worth of gear should not be of too much concern. Here is my honest opinion. It's a boat. It floats well. You already have it. Make it work well enough for you. Don't worry if someone else would be hap...

Re: kayak trip possable?
A note on the Pungo 120, When it is loaded with gear even the smallest waves will pass over the stern. You will want a full skirt and the hatch may leak a little. Try loading it with 50lbs or so in the boat and take it out on a local trip and have a look for yourself.

Re: Compact, lightweight stove suggestion
The left over white ashes form the twig stove mixed with a small amount of water will clean your pots and stove like new.

One option is to ask for a cross country permit for zone 21 or 22 and head out on the feltman trail untill youre tired find a spot to camp and return in the morning.

Re: Obnoxious boaters
Don't forget, boaters sometimes get pretty tired of obnoxious backpackers who hang out on the dock all day. docks are for boats. Imagine if a group of boaters hung out at your shelter picnic table all afternoon.

Re: Obnoxious boaters
This is a touchy situation. Boater or backpacker there really is no difference- bad apples in every bunch- I am both a hiker and a boater. I need to think on this a while yet, that being said- I don't think rules and enforcement is the answer. My initial thought is that better communication may be t...
