I have done a bit of off trail exploring in the Malone Bay area. I use a map and compass and don't have any GPS points to speak of (othere than moose remains I came across). Be prepared to "hike" the water along the shore as there are places where that is the only way to go, short of backt...

From my reading at the link provided, there are docks at some of the campgrounds and it seems to say that its fine to dock there then anchor out at night. We have gone up the last 4 or 5 years at that time. Generally the weather is cool high 20's-30-40 at night high 40's low 50's during the day (warmer away from the Lake). You can count on a few sunny "warm" days. Count on a few rainy days and snow is not out of the question. Bugs are normal...
