Re: Some 2021 Windigo Store Prices

Would it be reasonable to assume they have the same products and priced at Rock Harbor?

Also, I might buy a steak if I didn't have to carry it. But with a fire ban in place, how would you cook it?

Depending on what kind of beer it is, it may not be that much of a deal? ;-)

Re: Marking Posts as Read

I just go to the menu and click new posts. I read the ones I want. Ignore the others. If I check in every day or two, there are never many there.

Re: PLB vs. satellite communicator

I find it humorous when people complain about the interface for the Garmin when not interfaced with a phone. I bet my ability to text with a phone is no better!!!

I think that was clear. I'm just trying be clever. But sometimes our language does get in the way.

Re: latest on beaver damage

Is it accurate to describe beaver activity in a wilderness area as "damage"?

Re: Recommended affordable 0.4 micron filter brands?

I like the Versaflow filter by HydroBlu better than the Sawyer. It has hose and tread connections on both ends so you can hook it up and back flush with no adapters. I have two Evernew bags. The dirty one screws on the dirty side. The clean one crews on the clean side. Hang it from a branch. Come ba...

Re: 1941 IR Guide

That is a treasure trove! If I have a couple of the brochures that are "cover only" over the years, would it be useful to send them to someone for inclusion in this archive? If you are talking about the npshistory.com site, I contacted them to see if they were interested in some of my doc...

Re: Backpacking Lower Peninsula

Manistee River Loop is more like 20 miles and pretty easy. I did most of it in one day. For a longer trip, I would suggest the North Country Trail in the Maniatee NF. From North if Newaygo to the Manistee River Loop is mostly off road and in the NF

Re: Backpacking knife

I have the SAK Victorinox Ambassador. It is the same as the SAK Classic, but slightly larger which makes the scissors more functional for people like me with fat fingers. The blade is small, but still larger than the Classic. https://www.victorinox.com/global/en/Products/Swiss-Army-Knives/Small-Pock...

Re: Stove Fuel - Windigo - June 4th

Not sure what the OP was asking when he said isopropyl fuel. Isopropyl alcohol is a poor fuel for alcohol stoves. If he was asking about alcohol, I can answer as I recently asked the plane operators about alcohol fuel as that what I use. Alcohol is not allowed on planes, nor are alcoholic beverages ...

Re: sock debate

I wear only Darn Tough. I did have a pair of Fits, but they did not wear well. The complex joints that allowed them to fit all wore thin very quickly. I feel DT socks need to be broken in. With time they confirm to the shape of your foot. I think it helps not to wash them too often. Their anti stink...

Nordhouse Dunes is the only Wilderness area in the LP. The Lake Michigan Rec Area on the north side is a great NF Campground and good access point.

Re: Isle Royale Queen III

I was reading the IR park brochure from 1941 (one year after the park was founded) and it listed the Isle Royale Queen out of Copper Harbor as one of the boats that serviced the island. This makes the Queen the longest serving boat service to IR. You can read it here. http://npshistory.com/brochures...
