Re: Gear/Tips for fishing Isle Royale
Second on reading the greenstone for some rules and regulations. Notice you'll need barbless hooks, or pinch the barbs down. Also I think there are some rules/recommendations on not using the same lures in Superior as inland to help prevent invasives without cleaning. On that note, me and two others...

--Wysi Wipes (basically dehydrated wet wipes --- probably not much weight savings, but it's fun to watch them poof up, and if they're hydrated with a drop of Dr Bronners and a splash of hot water, it's a spa-like experience. https://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=wysi+wipes&tag=googhydr...

Re: Tent for 3, or individual?
I'd also consider a sil-nylon one to save weight. A 10x10 could be set up similarly. I've been happy with mine I got here (most reasonable price I found at the time): https://www.shop.backpackingadventuregear.com/silnylon-tarps-starting-at-Siltarps.htm . It replaced my Kelty that I've had for years...

Re: water taxi rates
I'm doing a trip with friends this year and we looked into the taxis. Because of the rates we decided to change our trip up and we're going to stay at Rock Harbor overnight when we get there and then hop on the Voyageur ferry to get to our starting point. It might not be feasible for you, but it wor...

Re: Tent for 3, or individual?
I agree with the tarp idea. We are all friends and don't mind being cramped if its just sleeping. I worry about rain and if we have to spend longer periods in there. I'm leaning toward a 4 person, or everyone for themselves. Cost is definitely a factor as well. Either way we run it we'd have to buy ...

Re: Tent for 3, or individual?
Thanks! For some reason I didn't even think about a tarp to cover gear.... I guess I wasn't thinking. It is a great idea to prevent cramped living quarters or multiple tents...

Tent for 3, or individual?
Doing a trip at the end of June with 2 other friends. We don't have a tent yet, and planned on a single tent for all of us, but distributing our loads so we're evened out. I've been considering individual tents. My biggest concern is weather and where to put our packs. If we have one tent, and its b...

Re: June 16th-23rd hike trip route planning
I think we have a close to final route with some possible alternatives based on how we feel. Below is the current plan: 6/16 Arrive at Rock Harbor aboard IR Queen. find campsite, explore close by RH, Stay overnight. 6/17 Hop on Voyager Ferry at 8 AM and ride to Windigo(arrive around 1 pm) Hike 6.9 m...

Re: First time to IR, looking for trip tips out of rock Harbour
I'm doing a trip with friends for the first time the last week in June. With our schedules we have to take the Queen IV. What we plan on doing is staying in Rock Harbor overnight and then taking the Voyager out of Rock harbor the next morning around the island to Windigo and starting our hike there....

Re: June 16th-23rd hike trip route planning
Thanks for the input, I've been hashing over options and do think with schedules and whatnot are best with getting off the Ferry at Windigo.
Based on the lake and fishing input I like the looks of Todd and McCargoe so I'll probably try and fit those in.

Re: June 16th-23rd hike trip route planning
I like the suggestions, especially if Hatchet isn't worth the two night stay. I'm going to look into the Hatchet to Todd and then to McCargo plan fitting into our timeline. I also didn't consider getting off the Voyager at a different stop so I might look into this. We considered the water taxi and ...

Re: June 16th-23rd hike trip route planning
Hatchet lake, although pretty, will probably be awful with mosquitos. I think you might find the views more appealing if you took a route the included Moskey basin, Chippewa Harbor, W Chickenbone, McCargo cove. If you could work Todd harbor in you wouldn't be disappointed. Definitely whatever route...

June 16th-23rd hike trip route planning
I've been reading the forum for a while and am now close enough to a plan to post. Thank you all for the posts you have already made that have helped me, and for any future advice. Myself and two others are planning a trip in June and I'm looking for any input from people who have been to the island...
