Re: 2 wolves cross to IR-then go back
the supprising part is they stayed that long... west pack used to be big enough that their scent marking could have scared them off, or the pack itself would have run them off of their teritory. Based on the reports from GP, the moos population is pretty low there it is kind of supprising with the h...

Re: Tent question
by myself or with a friend I bring a Six Moon Designs Trekker, it is a one person intregated fly tarp style tent with netting. It uses trekking poles for support and is supper light. If my wife is going I'll bring a Alps Zephyr 2, it weighs quite a bit more but it's very water tight and has more wig...

Re: Acadia National Park
from my research the only options are basecamping at one of their campgrounds (cars and campers) and day hiking, they do not allow backcountry camping. They also have kayak tours if you were intrested in exploring the islands from the ocean side. I have been wanting to do a trip up there, it looks l...

Agree with rockriver... and they have been a part of the park service for many many years. All a part of keeping the parks and the people safe.

Re: More Bad News for IR Wolves
we didnt spill anything there... we had fried fish earlier that day but not where he was, and where we cooked and where the food/ I was is downwind from him. I'm not sure one would want to take on large prey like a human without help anyway. Anything that dosent turn and run looks scary because it i...

Re: More Bad News for IR Wolves
very skittish... didnt hang around long. I was being quiet... I'm not sure it saw me until I said something, then it jumped and turned to go the other way. Didn't run away at an all out run but I would call it a jogging pace. I followed it's tracks backwards to see where it came from and then follow...

Re: Isle Royale First Timers
I assume you are taking the Queen not the Voyager...
I would love that route/ miles... people might call me crazy, and some of my friends will no longer backpack with me.... if you have done long miles before it is very doable. McCargo to Lane is a long dry stretch, bring plenty of water.

LBL- Land between the lakes
Thinking about an early spring paddle trip to Land between the lakes in western Kentucky. Anyone ever been, or have any tips? Thinking about paddling the horseshoe from the highway 68 bridge on the Barkley side to the highway 68 bridge on the Kentucky lake side. That would leave us a ~8 mile road hi...

Re: Yellowstone Cell Connectivity
good points Don The difference at Isle Royale is the connection is via satalites I believe. Not that a dish in Yellowstone would be better. It also isn't cell service. Some connection is ok and necessary... fully connected is not... IMHO. I did pay the windigo store last summer to use the satalite p...
