The way you put it sounds better but I think we are just plain crazy!
It was nice meeting you Richard. We will see you on the flip side...err...if we survive. Canoe has icicles on it again and we're driving in snow.

Re: Current conditions on the island
After coming up for the first boat a couple years ago and getting stuck in a blizzard in Duluth, followed by entering the North Gap to see snow on the rocks (I think you were both on that boat with me, Nancy and Mike), well, I'm glad May didn't work out for me and I won't be up until June... Yepper...

I thoroughly enjoyed your trip report. I wish I could get my daughter to go with us. She wont even sleep in a tent, let alone spend two weeks in the wilderness without her cell phone.

Re: First boat
These are the ones I purchased. http://www.backcountrygear.com/montbell-ul-tec-down-pants-mens-1.html I got the mens as they fit me better than the womens. I absolutely love them. They are very light weight and very warm. There are many others out there that are cheaper, but for the three trips to t...

Re: First boat
Tampico, I have resigned myself to the fact that I will never have a warm, relaxing vacation. I am well prepared for the cold weather. I invested in a pair of down pants last year and they have kept me toasty. Actually, I can't imagine being on the island when it's warm, it just wouldn't feel right....

Island Mine has a fire ring at every individual and group site.
Malone has a standing grill at every shelter and a fire ring at the group tent sites.

Re: The Diamonds & Puke Tour- we got engaged on Isle Royale
My Husband proposed to me on the island at Rainbow Cove, in the spring of 2010! (My very first trip no less) We Honeymooned on the Island in the fall of 2010. My friends joked that the only reason I said yes was because I was afraid he'd leave me there. The Island sure is a magical place. Congratula...

Re: Souris River Canoe
Ed, Joe from Red Rock told us the the Quantico 18.5 didn't handle as well as the 17. I don't know about the 18.5 but I can tell you that our 17 is a dream. It handled the waves wonderfully, turns on a dime and remains stable even when the nose was under water. I got quite wet on our way to Rainbow C...

Re: Wolves on IR
We had A LOT of wolf activity in our backcountry site across from Grace Island. Fresh wolf tracks every day. It appeared to be only one wolf though. He did manage to feast off of a calf on Sept. 29th. The most bone chilling sound I ever heard.

Re: Minong closed again due to lightning cause fire
We didn't go to Island Mine this trip. We were with the elders (76 and 80), so hiking wasn't an option.
