Re: TR: 8/8/19 - 8/16/19 Dad and daughter kayak trip
Thank you for the report and pictures. Nothing like time with a kiddo on the island. I'm a lucky one, I have four daughters from 15-3 who are crazy unique and amazing! Each year I bring each one (above age 5) on their very own daddy daughter vacation, so from age 5 until they decide hanging out wit...

After Bobcats prodding, here goes  8/8: Thursday morning 6:30AM, left Lansing area Copper harbor bound. Had two kayaks up top, two people inside, and two backpacks in the back and a long haul ahead of us. Pit stops in St Ignace (Gotta stop at Clydes), Marquette, and Houghton, we got up to Copp...

Re: Places to get equipment?
Additionally some gear can be caught on a bargain, or homemade. There are kits and instructions on how to make quilts, tents etc. My main stove for this last trip was a photon style alcohol stove used with a Sterno Inferno cook set (picked up from Meijer for $19.99 new) Sites like steepandcheap can ...

Re: Baggage Handling on the Ranger
FWIW, Dramamine is an easy one, its a long boat ride, and if you take it you will be drowsy, if you dont take it you may make some new friends at the back of the boat!
besides, who doesnt love a morning nap on the way there?

Re: Carrying Water
I've used a few dry bags as portable buckets or sinks for a few years. Filter water, do laundry, bath as needed. Great tools for the job, light weight, and they have a handy carry handle. Super cheap too at walmart for the 3 pack https://www.walmart.com/ip/Outdoor-Products-Pack-Ultimate-Dry-Sacks-3-...

Re: Looking for advice
I would not recommend avoiding the Tobin/Duncan portage by paddling around Blake Point unless there are ideal conditions (no wind/flat waves). I have paddled around Blake Point in less than ideal conditions and have learned from my folly not to do so. No worries there, I did that part of the resear...

Re: Looking for advice
So Plan A is officially out
Plan B is looking pretty good, or a plan C with more Rock Harbor, Tobin Harbor type stuff.
Built a portage yoke that I am practicing with, as I suspect I will be carrying the boats more than the kid...

Re: May 14 Mid-island run
reading that I feel like so much less of a man
I would consider that a serious day of backpacking on its own, let alone to RUN it. I tap out after five miles on flat terrain.
congrats on a great run

Re: Any help? Looking for trip planning
Thanks everyone I think I will take the Richie to Moskey idea to heart. Saves the water taxi ride, and gives us fresh trail/water, with a bit more time on the water under our own paddles. Not too worried about Siskwit, I respect these lakes, never fear, but I've spent enough time in my yak to know m...
