Re: Shelter sharing etiquette

The rangers are helpful when someone needs help/or they're injured. 2 years ago I had a tender knee when I got to 3 mile CG. I told the ranger I was heading back to RH. When I got back to Rock Harbor the next day, another ranger came up to my shelter and asked how I was doing. That's before he asked...

Re: Shelter sharing etiquette

Back in 2010 just before Labor Day quite a storm prevented both boats from the UP to arrive at RH per their schedules. The Queen finally came out two days late and it was about 10 pm when we got back to Copper Harbor. I spent three straight evenings in a shelter at RH with a couple from Urbana, Ohio...

torpified is correct about the head net. I tried eating and or drinking with it still on my head (covering my mouth). What a mess!

Re: Why Does Minnesota have more Wolves?

I almost hit a wolf on Mich. 117 north of Engadine a few years ago (on the way to Copper Harbor). On the way home that year, another wolf was on the side of the road (Mi. 94 W. of Rumely). They are in Wisconsin (saw one E. of Clam Lake). I've seen some along L. Superior in Minnesota.

Re: Isle Royale Named to Best of the World List

I guess I was thinking back 53 years ago, when the drill instructors were training us, to be infantry at Ft. Dix, NJ. November/December in the field was pretty chilly/cold.

Re: Isle Royale Named to Best of the World List

I'm old! Guess what's in the Oct/Nov2020 AARP magazine on page 60? ISRO NP 2019 visitors=26410! I was one of those visitors. (Some time I'll tell you about the Rangers and yours truly.) Topic: Off the Beaten Path. I'm not in the magazine.

Re: Wolf Island, a new book about the Wolf-Moose study

My local library has this book. I'm #2 on a wait list for it. The other Mech books are worth the read!

Re: Starting from East end of Greenstone Trail

The Greenstone from the junction near Mt. Franklin to Lookout Louise was one of my favorite hikes. I did the hike out to the east as the sun was coming up. I've thought about doing it again. jerry (the old guy)

Re: Alone at Malone

When I got to Malone many, many years ago there were many kids and parents there. That was the only place I was able to call Ohio, Ky, and Minnesota with a regular cell phone (at the NP) . The hike down from Greenstone was a challenge. The trail down was overgrown and in some places above my head. I...
