Re: Trip Plans
I had to change plans due to a "big storm" last year. No one seemed to care or take notice. Even a ranger I talked to when I got to the Rock Harbor campgrounds said "things happen." Maybe they'll look at where we were someday in the future.

Re: New to Windigo
I felt the clockwise approach was easy for me. When you do the Feldtman Ridge going up from the east, I feel will be easier for you then going up from west. I kind of slid down the west side. Wouldn't want to climb up from the west if it is raining.

Re: Rock Harbor to Windigo
Kevinl is correct, the west end isn't too bad. I've hiked from Windigo to Island Mine and thought it wasn't too bad (I was 62 at the time). I've also hiked from W. Chickenbone to about 2 miles outside Windigo. There are are some ups and downs, but not super hard. I've also covered the Greenstone fro...

Re: Wolf Sightings
Looking forward to picture. You're lucky! A family of wolves ran through our campgrounds at Siskiwit Bay in '06. No pictures.

2008 trip report (a little late)
Isle Royale NP trip 2008 August 6 (Wednesday), Took the V2 out to McCargoe Cove via Windigo. Reasonably calm day for the Lady. It was partly cloudy most of the day, with a high in the 70s. Once again the ranger had me participate in the LNT exercise. (She must enjoy picking on this old guy.) The San...

Windigo Store
For those of you who have been there this month. Does the Windigo store still have snacks, sandwiches and drinks? I want to make sure I have extra money for that pit stop at the end of the trail. jerry

Re: Guess Where?
For some reason I remember a ton of rocks at Rainbow Cove, that's why I thought of that location first. You also need to mark where you came out of the trees to make sure you find the trail back to the campgrounds at the lake.

Re: Minong
I should have my head examined, but a tentative plan to do this trail is scheduled for later this month. I've never shown the wife the pictures on this topic. Probably never will. I'm not going solo as I have done in the past (4 years). A young guy who teaches at the same college, is going to try to...

Re: Report on latest IR Wolf/Moose numbers!
Seeing a moose is all luck. Being at the right place at the right time I've noticed is a requirement. There are often one or two around Washington Creek (Windigo). I saw 4 in '01, 3 in '06, zero in '07 and '09, but only 1 in '08.

Re: 2010 Trip Log - Add your planned itinerary here!
jturne12 You're welcome. Since you're arriving on the V2 by 10 a.m., you should be able to get your camping permit by about 10:30. Say you average 2 m.p.h. on the trail you should take hopefully no more then 6 hours to get to Desor. If you hit the trail by 11, you should arrive at Desor by 5 pm. Nee...
