"Ready and (still) waiting - we need some cold weather and more ice before full deployment of the Winter Study 2016...maybe next week."

Re: Hammocks Inside of Shelters

If I remember correctly, there was a 1x2 slat attached to the wall near the door where he attached one end and he attached the other end around the frame on the screened side. He tied off both ends, no hooks, no straps.

Re: Help with Fuel claculation

I have a whisperlite international stove so I'm not sure how much what I am about to say will help you. I boiled .5 liter of water 9 times during my last trip and used about 5 oz of fuel. I didn't do any simmering, just boiled the water and used it right away. I also took the seaplane. You purchase ...

Great read! I, too, would be interested in the newby's perspective.

They were more convenient to have than not. I just brought along my LL Bean snowshoe poles. Nothing fancy. But, I won't do long hi...

Re: Trip plan for Minong trail

I used trekking poles for the first time during my last trip in 2011. I had some fairly high mileage days and found them invaluable. I used my snowshoeing poles, nothing fancy. No spring tips, no cork handles. They kept me from slipping and tripping on multiple occasions. I'll definitely use them on...

Re: Rock Harbor-Lane Cove-Daisy Farm-Moskey Basin-Greenstone

Awesome report! Great family bonding time, and a 20 mile hike memory to boot. Epic!
I wonder if the hiker with the broken arm/wrist was from Ingo's group?

Re: CAMP FIRES: looking for a definitive answer

The last time I was on the island in 2011, the kids staying at one of the group sites at Island Mine had a fire going. I don't know if it was legal, but the ring looked legit.
