Nancy, thanks for posting your trip report--I really enjoyed it. Sounds like you definitely had a rare experience on the island and one that will be enjoyable to share with others for years to come.

What a sad story, especially at such a critical time in the wolves history.

Re: Hammocks
I came across the hammockforums a couple weeks ago and I was astonished that there were so many topics on the forum and that there are over 15,000 members all talking about hammocks. There is definitely a lot of information over there.

Re: Wolf population is at risk (News article)
I'm obviously not a biologist, nor do I have any formal training in genetics or other such fields of study, but from what I've read, I have to believe the limited gene pool and decades of in-breeding have contributed to their current state of health. I'm in no position to give percentages, but aside...

Re: Hammocks
leeblue5, thanks for the info. I was just curious if many people used hammocks here because I don't recall ever seeing them on the island. My buddy and I have always used a tent or a shelter. Did you buy your whoopie slings or did you make them?

Re: What are you going to use your REI dividend on? 2012 edi
I picked up a new Black Diamond headlamp and some straps for my hammock. I also used my 20% discount that came in the mail for some clothes.

Hammocks
After recently becoming the owner of a portable hammock (ENO Doublenest) I thought of a question for the members of the Isle Royal forum. How many of you own a portable camping-style hammock (Eagles Nest Outfitters, Hennessy, Blackbird, etc), and second, have you ever used one on the island. When I ...

Wow! Where was I? I never heard this story. How sad. Just goes to show that even our places of solitude and peace are not safe from the evils of those on the fringe of society.

Re: Fish Pictures from June Trip
Nice fish, guys! My son and I were on the island in August and spent a lot of time fishing and we caught a grand total of ZERO fish between the two of us over 5 days. I'm glad to see that at least someone is catching something.

Blackdog, I enjoyed your report and the photos. By the way, I think that large bird you saw was a Sandhill Crane ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandhill_Crane ). I saw two of them when we came into the shelter area at Washington Creek in 2010 and I heard them again this year (2011) when I was at Sis...

Re: BWCA Forest fire
The technology we have today always amazes me. Being able to see such a large area like this from space with great resolution and clarity is really wild.
That time-lapse image is very interesting too. I hope they manage to get that fire under control before losing too much of that wilderness area.

Sounds like it was a nice trip except for the sole coming off of your wife's boot. Having a strong breeze, especially when the temps are rather warm, can be a real life saver. I've really enjoyed both of my stays at West Chickenbone. I have also stayed at Lane Cove once and enjoyed that, too. Thanks...
