Re: Advice for living the dream in the big city of Rock Harb

ETB: I plan to venture out as far as I can without overdoing things. My fear is going too far and then having difficulty returning. I'm walking more and more every day here. No new injuries and things are looking up. I plan to spend a lot of time taking pictures (and eating Lake Trout). I would have...

Advice for living the dream in the big city of Rock Harbor?

When I posted my upcoming itinerary for staying at the Rock Harbor Lodge, I must admit I was being a little tongue in cheek but I really meant all of it. I'd never seen anyone post such an itinerary for a Lodge stay and I might have raised a few eye brows on some "purists". But recent heal...

I just received the Standard Horizon HX300 I got for $125. In stock with ground shipping from east coast in 3 days for $8. There is also a new $20 rebate valid for purchases from 8/1/13 thru the end of the year. Looks great. Floats, LED flasher turns on automatically when floating even if radio is t...

Re: Trout Stamp

Does anyone know if you MUST HAVE a trout stamp if you are going to fish on Lake Superior? I would not purposely be fishing for trout. I have a MI fishing license but got conflicting reports from the outfitters I was visiting while in the U.P. last week. If I must have one, can I buy one at Rock Ha...

George's latest film was made over two 40 day visits, in the Spring and Autumn.

Recent novel published based on IRNP

I was vacationing in the Keweenaw earlier this month and ran across some flyers in restaurants advertising a novel published this past April, "A Yooper's Summer on Isle Royale". I haven't purchased or read it. Looks interesting maybe. http://www.amazon.com/Yoopers-Summer-Isle-Royale/dp/147...

Re: TR: 9/10-9/21/2012 [RH-Malone Bay-Feldtmann Loop-Hugginn

As far as the seasickness goes...I have been born and raised on the water, 90% of the time I slept on the rocking boat and never once been seasick. That being said, I ALWAYS take a (non drowsy) Dramamine before heading out to the island no matter which vessel I am on. Better safe than sorry. And al...

Re: Overboard

My Personal Flotation Device has enough pockets or attachment points to hold the following: 1) Stainless steel (rust proof) Knife with it’s own flotation wrist strap. The wrist strap is put on when you are using it. 2) Audible rescue device (Loud whistle with lanyard) 3) Visual distress signaling de...

Seems like a very strange business model since they are less than 50 steps away from the Queen dock. I guess they figure it would take away from their guided trips to IRNP.

Re: Canoe rental alternative?

I've never used these guys that I found but they would work if you're coming from down state Michigan. The explicitly list IRNP as an approved destination. They also rent vehicle carriers.

Re: Guide to handheld VHF's

There are units that do NOT come with NOAA weather band reception. Double check for this feature. Another feature that some units offer is self flotation. While all are water resistant and most claim water proof, there are different levels of submersible and many do not float. I can't recommend any ...

Re: Any suggestions to our itinerary

Welcome to the forum, You did not mention the experience levels of your group members. If everyone is experienced and in pretty good shape your itinerary is doable but it is pushing things moderately with a couple of 10 mile days and one 12 mile day. The trail from Daisy Farm to Moskey Basin on the ...

Ed, I went to here (http://www.trimbleoutdoors.com/ViewTrip/1084161) but I cannot figure out how to download the file. I have a login, but that did not make it any easier. Any tips? I did not take the time to register at that website but there was a link to download the GPX file as well as a Google...
