Re: Favorite Mountain House meals

I could get on the Knorr brand of things, but I have seriously tried almost a dozen and a half mountain house meals. a dozen backpacker pantry meals, and half a dozen Mary Jane Farms meals. Sure is there a couple of them that initially taste good. Yes. However, after the half way point, they all sta...

Re: A call for the wild - save Isle Royale's wolves

Just saying...he gives a simplistic option to solve a not so simplistic problem without providing any backing to his opinion other than that it seems like a brilliant idea at first glance. And for good measure, he throws a cherry on top of it all by suggesting that tourists are likely going to disap...

Re: Chippewa Harbor via Lake Superior by canoe

I'm going with my girlfriend...so not to worry...no solo adventures here :) No wetsuits either unfortunately. Can you elaborate on float bag? And if decking/spray skirt is not available for the rental (I'm guessing it probably won't be) does that immediately take this route off of the table?

Re: A call for the wild - save Isle Royale's wolves

If wolves vanish, tourists are likely to go the same way.
This guy is a tool and has no idea what he's talking about after having said what is quoted above. Get real man.

Re: Chippewa Harbor via Lake Superior by canoe

So is the moral of this story truly set on it being too risky to paddle an open kevlar canoe from Caribou Island to Chippewa Harbor. I mean here I was being all proud that I was able to convince myself that paddling from Malone Bay to the Isle Royale lighthouse was not a good idea, especially with a...

Re: George Desort interviews wolf experts

Did anyone have the opportunity to watch this video. I have the intentions to when I have time and was wondering if you felt as though it was worth the almost 2 hour watch. My time is precious

Re: Interview with Rolf

Great interview. That one host looked like a wizard from a Harry Potter movie with the garb he was wearing. Shame the island lost the opportunity to have 7 additional pups added to it. Golly.

Re: Favorite Mountain House meals

I just never could get into digging Mountain House, Backpacker Pantry, or Mary Jane's Farm freeze dried meals. I don't like choking my food down. All that stuff tastes heinous to me. I'd rather do like Hooky and try to create my own dehydrated meals before I waste good money on bad food.

Re: Old Trails

Wow look at that. Very neat. Why don't you think the trail exists anymore? Do you think it was officially closed or not used frequently to where it did not stay exposed enough to see and navigate?

Re: George Desort's next Documentary

Hi Mike, long time no see. In my recent reads after not being active one the forms for a while. I noticed somewhere in between all the posts that I read that you have several old maps. I am sure I speak for everyone when I say that it would be a real treat if you posted them on here. I'd love to see...

Re: First Time on IR - Itinerary questions

So I may or may not have misinterpreted things. However, this is the line I was considering: You have to restrict your hammock to the designated site, and yes you are right to be concerned. I thought being that backcountry areas do not have "designated sites", there would not be an appropr...

Re: First Time on IR - Itinerary questions

Tree Rattt, I loved your presentation of trees and how each are affected differently by hammocks based off the kind of bark that they have around their outer layer. Thank you for your knowledge on matters. It is unfortunate that the Rangers do not allow hammocks in the backcountry, if it is fair to ...
