Re: Canoe route suggestions/general questions
Another option to consider is canoeing the inland lakes of IR. On a typical day, we have seen more moose (and other wildlife) than people, and the fishing is great. The BWCA is absolutely packed with people by comparison. Here's a suggested itinerary for an easy 4-5 day trip: Day 1: Voyageur II from...

When a wolf says no to IR
Looks like this wolf opted to get back to Canada before COVID closed the border...

Love the beaded drops of water on the back. Leads the viewer to imagine action even in a still shot.

Three cheers for the classic Therm-a-Rest pad. I'm about 25 years into my lifetime warranty.

Re: 1st IR trip - June 19-27, 2021
Here's the ferry schedule, to and from Grand Portage: https://www.isleroyaleboats.com/schedules.html You can decide how many hours on the ferry is too many. We've made the 8-hour trip from Grand Portage to Rock Harbor a couple of times. It's kind of long, but overall we think it's a pleasant trip. S...

I'm a recent convert to Natrapel, which contains picaridin. It's not oily like DEET, and has a pleasant lemony smell. Works just as well.

RE: chairs, hands-down, I think the Therm-A-Rest Trekker Chair is best for comfort and stability, assuming you use a pad that will work with it. I can spend hours sitting on a hard surface reading with mine. We also picked up a tripod chair last summer. I think it's great for cooking -- even with yo...

Re: Wolf Island, a new book about the Wolf-Moose study
My plan was to wait until summer and read it on the island, but after having the book for a week, I couldn't resist any longer.
Of course, I might re-read it on the island...

Re: Wolf Island, a new book about the Wolf-Moose study
I just finished reading the book -- savoring it over about a week. A really nice memoir, written so that it's easy to picture the wolf-moose interactions, as well as life on the island 60 years ago.
