Ingo wrote: Mon May 29, 2023 2:11 pm Glad you had good trip. How was the trail down to Siskiwit? The lower part was a stream when I was there this time of year.
The trail to siskiwit was in pretty good shape, even without trail crew work. No rain for most of a week helps.

Re: 5 Day Menu

I am revisiting this string to update on my total loss of appetite on hiking trips (see above). Maybe this will be helpful to those who have suffered from the same. I did great on my last trip! Unfortunately, I changed so many things I have no idea which really helped. In any case, here are the modi...

TR: Late May 2023

A friend and i were on the island from May 20 to May 25, 2023. Our hike was: Windigo to Hugginin and back to Windigo. Windigo to IM for two nights, with a day hike to Siskiwit and then back to Windigo. We kicked off our trip with another delicious meal at the Angry Trout in Grand Marais and then ove...

first ferry get off?

Does anyone know if the Grand Portage ferry’s first run went off? I leave on it on Friday. I know in the past that i’ve has delayed the first ferry. I doubt that is the case this year, but looking for confirmation.

I may have missed it, but is there an update from the winter study on moose and wolves (pups,…)?

Re: 5/19-5/29 2023 [Hiking]

Cool Jerry. If I do the Feldtmann loop, I might bump into you if you do it counterclockwise. Otherwise, there is always a chance I see you at Hugginin Cove if you are doing that at the tail end of your trip. Either way, whether we cross paths or not, I hope you have a wonderful trip Great. We will ...

Re: Late June 2023 Minong Itinerary

I think it is all doable. I suspect you will get into N Desor a little earlier than you predict. Parts of the Minong, including those for which you foresee no issues, are treacherous if wet. I fell three times on the exposed ridge in one day. Just a warning and no reason to change your plans. One su...

Re: What are you spending your 2023 REI dividend on?

I have a Garmin for exactly these reasons and the preset messages are great. One thing i warn my wife or any other recipient of the messages about is the “911” message. I warn them that it is more likely that I will need to press the emergency button because i came upon an injured hiker than it bein...

Re: Have u ever met nicer folks, then at ISRO?

I agree with (the other) Jerry. I have never met a hiker who was not pleasant. I have met many boaters who were great, but several who were horrible and thought that the rules we all follow did not apply to them. Still the good far outnumbered the bad among boaters.
