Re: Guess What Campground?

Midwest Ed, you have either been in the lone shelter at Todd Harbor or you are a good guesser! Either way you are correct! Your are up for the next mystery picture.

I am posting the picture I would have used as a hint, as it is a beautiful sunset at Todd Harbor.

If no one can come up with the correct place by Sunday I will add another picture for a hint, although it might make it too easy!

Re: Guess What Campground?

I would like to add a little twist. I enjoy reading many of the messages that are written in the shelters. This one was easily the most impressive and memorable message that I have come across! I believe this young lady was much wiser than her peers.

Re: Questions about a planned June canoe trip

jrwiesz and Midwest Ed, thank you for your input! I will probably portage the canoe most of the way and then hide it in the trees, although I don't think most people would mess with it. I have also hiked and/or backpacked in Colorado, Montana, Utah, and Wyoming, but I believe the "code of the t...

Re: Questions about a planned June canoe trip

Ingo, thank you very much for your response to my questions! I thought it was a workable plan but wanted some positive confirmation from the experienced people on this forum. I'll take your advice and leave a note on my canoe. I'm not looking forward to the long portage, but I am looking forward to ...

Questions about a planned June canoe trip

I am planning a canoe trip towards the end of June and have a couple of questions for you veteran paddlers. My trip will last 9-10 days. I am coming from Grand Portage to Windigo/Rock Harbor on day one. I plan on paddling to Merritt Lane after getting my permit at Rock Harbor. I believe I will have ...

Re: TR: 9/19 to 9/27/2016 Paddling Rock Harbor

Ingo, thank you for a great report on your trip! I really enjoyed reading it. You traveled a long way to get to the Isle, but of course, it was worth it! Isle Royale is truly a special place and it is evident that you enjoy and treasure spending time there. I am typically a backpacker, but two summe...

Re: experience with esbit stoves?

torpified, Have you seen or tried these? http://brasslite.com/ I am on my second one and happy using it. I usually travel solo and they are light, small, and simple to use. Because of their simplicity, they do not break down and you don't have to repair them in the field. They use very little denatu...

Daisy Farm Ranger

Does anyone know if Ranger Emily is back at Daisy Farm this summer (2016)? I did a solo canoe trip last summer and she went above and beyond in helping me out. To show my gratitude I would like to bring her some "trail magic" on my trip there this summer. I thought about bringing her some ...

Re: End Of Season Trip to East Side

Hello Jerry, You probably won't remember me but we met several years back at Isle Royale. We ended up at the pizza joint in Grand Marais, having pizza and talking. I am from Minot, ND and my name is Brent. Anyway, if you have the time while in Rock Harbor, hike the Stoll Trail. It is even mentioned ...

Re: Canoeing the NE part of the island

Thank you for your response Gimp! Nothing but good advice on this forum and yours adds to it. I am a backpacker who wants to do some canoe trips, so your perspective is appreciated. The paddle from Birch Island to Pickerel Cove is my main concern too. I am not even considering the paddle around Blak...
