Re: TR Fall Sept-Oct 2006 Chippewa Base-Richie-Whitt-Wood
Day 3 Friday Sept 29th, 2006 It was still wet out so we slept in a little. Got up around 8am. Dave and I had a hard time starting a fire with the wet wood. We finally managed but it took a lot of time. Blaine got up shortly after that. He was feeling better so he took over the fire as he is “firema...

TR: 9/27-10/1, 2006 [Paddling] [Chippewa-Richie-Whitt-Wood]
Day 1 Wednesday Sept.27th, 2006 VII leaves Grand Portage at 8a.m. after discussion of even going out that day. Weather was cloudy, cold, windy with 4 ft. waves. Captain said we would take a peek and see if we could make it ok. It was a rough ride but we made it to Windigo at 10a.m. Our original pla...

Re: Happy Holidays Everyone!
Thanks Ingo! Happy Holidays to you as well. Have not been on the site in awhile and crossing my fingers that 2012 is the year I get back on the island. Oh it's April, where does the time go?

Re: Pike on a fly and a HARD PORTAGE
Ah thanks for the report John. So while on Duncan Bay you did not camp at the narrows but the other one? Of the 2, which one do you like better? Portaging kayaks on the Duncan-Tobin portage? Impressive I must say. Well done. Glad you caught some fish and had a good time as usual!

Former Captain "Fritz" has been spotted.
So I was browsing around you tube and came across this. Fritz was the captain on my trips to Isle Royale. I knew he was doing the Vista Fleet in Duluth but it was nice to actually see him in action. Must be quite a change from trips to Isle Royale. He cleans up pretty nice! http://www.youtube.com/wa...

Wow, well done! I use GE a lot. This will be very helpful in planning my next trip to the island. Thanks.

Re: MPLS Star Trib editorial on eviction notices to leashold
I saw this in my paper this morning. I think it is ridiculous to "evict" family members who have been on the island before it was ever a park. Even the Sivertson's got an eviction notice. They have been a popular name along the north shore of Minnesota for years and have written books and ...

Re: A sad realization: no trip this year for me
Well let me join the crowd. At least I am in good company here. I am on a serious losing streak here as far as getting back to IR. Not gonna happen unfortunately this year. Very disappointed and really makes me appreciate when I did go. So I will read the trip reports here and hopefully that will he...

Re: Haunted Hikes
One time I pulled up to the Wood Lake campground, alone, and the only other people there were a family packing their canoes to leave. While the parents packed, the little children took me up to the overlook over Siskiwit Lake (beautiful spot) and told me they had just spread their aunt's ashes righ...

Re: Portaging kayaks
Wendy, That is one heck of a route for kayaks. I like to canoe and kayak. Not to discourage you but I would only portage a canoe on that route. Plus portaging a canoe or kayak with 2 people is very awkward and clumsy. It is hard to get into a rythym when you have to rely on the other person. They do...
