Re: Circumnavigate Kayak Questions
Gentleman, thank you for your input. So I have some additional information to add which has come apparent to me as of today. The courses I would be taking are on the open waters of Lake Michigan (I realize that Lake Michigan isn’t as beastly or as cold as Lake Superior, but I still was hoping that w...

Re: Circumnavigate Kayak Questions
Also it should be noted that I’d be renting a Kayak and it doesn’t come with a spray skirt. Can I skip out on this item since it seems like it would be outlandish to invest in a spray shirt that I will only use once since the Kayak will be a rental and the skirt costs $100. I am willing to invest in...

Re: Circumnavigate Kayak Questions
Thanks for the response Base. Based off of what you told me I’m going to take 3 kayaking courses. One is basic, one is about edging and bracing, and another is about rescues and recovery. Should I take a course on rolling or is that only if your doing whitewater kayaking? Thanks again.

Re: Are the showers and laundry open by mid May?
https://www.rei.com/product/758045/sea-to-summit-pocket-shower You want one of these my friend. Combine it with a stove and some boiled water, you’ll be one happy camper. I take a shower every day after I hike. This is my favorite camping possession. It is light too. Not to mention, very affordable....

Re: Itinerary Advice Please [Paddling]
This is the most extreme trip I ever heard of. If it took place, it is a shame there is no trip report for it. Does you name happen to be Chuck Norris?

Re: Itinerary Advice for cadenparulski
I love your itinerary. Good miles. However I’m surprised that you think it will take you eight hours to get to Moskey. I think you’re being very generous with the amount of time that you are giving yourself, which is a good thing of course. Plus it would be nice to get there before it gets dark. As ...

Re: Isle Royale Maps
Thanks for the heads up. They must have just done a re-design on the illustration on the front of the map. Mine is a 2006.

Re: our first backpacking adventure
Can’t leeches swim to you? I realize they don’t like the colder waters, So it is less likely that you will be sucked by one of them, but can’t they still get you if they wanted to?

Re: our first backpacking adventure
I would make It a point to visit McCargoe Cove and Moskey basin, they along with Malone Bay are my favorite sites on the island. McCargoe takes the cake though. I would not swim there though...unless you like leeches.

Re: Scoville Point Loop part of the best 100 miles in the NPS
I get it now. Thanks Midwest. I thought it was the best 100 trails at the National parks but it is the top 100 miles. I should’ve read things more closely. No wonder I couldn’t find 100 different trails.

Re: Isle Royale Maps
Does anyone know if there is any differences between the new National Geographic trails illustrated map compared to the one that I got about five years ago?

Re: Itinerary Advice - Early May (First Boat?)
The Rock Harbor trail is a butt kicker. Although it does have a beautiful scenic look with Lake Superior coasting along side of it; the trail is very rocky and tiring on the knees after a couple of miles. The Tobin Harbor trail is smooth and has some overlooks to it. If you want the best of both wor...

Re: Minong in May?
Yes. You will need keys guys. Those hasps at the bottom of the shelters will be locked and you won’t be able to get in ;) Miss you and Nancy, Mike. I see she hasn’t been active on the forums for a while. Hope all is well. Do you guys have any trips planned for the season yet? And if you are serious ...
