Neavada Barr on her stay druing Winter Study

Post by johnhens »

Besides myself, I know there are many here who share my dream of spending time on Isle Royale in Winter. Nevada Barr was able to do so in researching her book: Winter Study.
An article of her stay:

I just finished Winter Study and was left a tad grumpy over one small detail. Having taken a satellite phone to ISRO, I know just how limited they are. In particular, I know of no current handheld satellite phone that will send or receive photos. I think the new TerreStar phones will be able to do that, but they are not now available and certainly were not when the book was written. Also, AFAIK, they just don't work under trees or inside buildings. You have to get out in the open to use them.

Hi, the link to the NPCA article is unfortunately broken. Is there a live link? I'm very interested in reading the article. Thank you! :)

I couldn't find any. Apparently too old and they don't seem archive.
