Malone Bay 2020

Post by johnhens »

For those going to IR this summer/fall, keep in mind Malone Bay will not have a permanently staffed Ranger living there.

When a Ranger was assigned there, they did water patrols (so that the Windigo folks did not have to) including, inland lakes and trails. Also a presence in an emergency.

There were two rangers assigned to Malone Bay for at least the past two summers (the only times we've been there). They have emergency medical training, and are involved in a steady stream of medical evacuations. Mostly broken ankles from slips on the trails, but last summer they provided treatment for a man who landed at the dock with signs and symptoms of a heart attack, and had him flown to Thunder Bay. Impressive work.

I think it's also nice to have rangers at the campgrounds along the shore, where boaters can reportedly sometimes get a bit inebriated and rowdy.
