Pit Stop ranger presentation

Post by blink »

If I was taking Voyaguer II from Grand Portage to McCargoe, is it possible (or maybe necessary?) to make a pit stop in Windigo to fill out our trip plan and see the ranger presentation?

Necessary. No formal ranger presentation, but there is a brief Leave No Trace talk upon arrival in Windigo, and one can obtain a permit if being dropped off at McCargoe Cove or Belle Isle. Campers bound for Rock Harbor get theirs when they reach their destination.

You MUST obtain your permit at Windigo if being dropped off at McCargoe Cove or Belle Isle. They usually tell you to go to the head of the line, but get right back to the boat. If you write out your itinerary beforehand it can help speed up the process.

That is very helpful, thank you! I will absolutely write out my itinerary ahead of time.
