If I want to post some word files to the board, i.e. recipe lists, meal planners, etc., can I do that?

Hey Nick,

I'm not sure how I missed this post, but I apologize for the late delay.

No, you cannot post a Word document to the forums. This is a security feature, since Word documents very easily get infected with worms and viruses and are one of the easiest ways to spread computer viruses such as Confiker.

If you have a Word document you would like to post, I would recommend converting it into a PDF. There are many free PDF file converters out there, such as Primo PDF or PDF995. These require software installed on your computer, however.

Lastly, you can send it to me via email and I can convert it for you, then send it back for you to post.

The files are several pages long and conversion to .pdf is not a problem. Do I just insert them in a message or is there a folder in the forum where I can post them? The only reason I would not want to put them in .pdf format is that they are tables designed to be re-ordered lists. Could I send the word/excel files to you, have you scan them, and then post them that way as downloadable files only? I'm pretty sure they are virus free as I've got AV software on all my computers. I could design a brief disclaimer as to the potential virus status of the files.

Nick,

You would just insert them into a message just like you would any other picture file you upload in a post.

As for the XLS, send them to me and I'll take a look at them.

Hey Nick, I just found this and tried it out, works good...see what this does for you: http://www.cometdocs.com/

No software to install! Maybe it can turn the XLS file into something friendlier.

I tried that and never got anything back by email. My spam level has increased a lot, but that could be due to some wider wanderings elsewhere on the web.

I ended up installing Scribus http://www.scribus.net/canvas/Scribus, mentioned in Wikipedia as a PDF converter. But when I attached the PDF to my message on the board, it doesn't appear like a photo, but as a downloadable attachment (http://isleroyaleforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1956). Is that how it should be?

If I send you a Word document with this table (pasted from Excel) with lines and colors, can you convert it? Will it keep the lines and colors.
