Sailing the North Channel

Post by Ingo »

Ingo, I am new to sailing. I love the pictures and advice you post. How much of a hassel is it to take a sailboat into Canada? Next year I will have my hands full with Isle Royale and Lake Michigan but the pictures you posted make this a possible trip for down the road. Now that things are coming to a close here in Wisconsin I have almost 6 months to do nothing but plan for the next couple of years. Now that I have the power boat I will be looking at a late May trip to the island befor it gets too busy and a trip later in the year with the sailboat. Any ideas would be helpfull. If you don't want to highjack this thread you can reply on the old sailboat as a base camp thread. Thanks
Hey Richard, I just started this new thread altogether. We chartered the boat out of Little Current on Manitoulin Island, so didn't cross the border with one. Although given my handful of experiences crossing the border, getting there isn't a hassle, it's getting back home  . I'm thinking Tampico or Ed probably have some experience. Our biggest concern was health insurance coverage in a foreign country, particularly for our Dad who had had some health issues.

Anyways, loved the North Channel and hope to get back some day. You definitely do need to be up on your navigation skills, however! Here's a link to more pics to wet your whistle: http://moskeybasin.com/Vacations/North_ ... _2006.html The Baie Fine day is pics #24-#51. And I pre-apologize for #58--there's no accounting for family  (mild content warning here...).

Here is an excellent trip log of my last trip to the North Channel written by my friend Jim (who sometimes visits this forum).

And, In case you hadn't seen it already, here is Jim's trip log from our last Isle Royale trip.

And just for good measure, here is Jim's trip Georgian Bay trip report from 2011. I was not on this trip, unfortunately.
