Winter camping in Alabama

Post by DonNewcomb »

We just finished a two-night outing in the Talladega National Forrest in NE Ala. Weather was very good. Coldest night on top of the mountain was about 36ºF and the warmest was probably near 70ºF on south-facing slopes at midday. No rain but it rained last week so there were no issues finding water, even on the ridge line. Most of the leaves had fallen so the views were better than in the summer. It was hunting season, thus the precaution of the orange bunting on my backpack. Headed out with pack weights around 24 lbs.
