Fuel At Windigo

Post by melissa102255 »

I will be arriving in Windigo on July 7th via the Seaplane. How can I guarantee that the store will have my Butane/Propane canisters that I need for my stove?

Melissa,
Call the lodge/concessionaire, they should be able to tell you what is available at Windigo.

The number for the concessionaire on the Island is 906-337-4993.

I don't think there are any "guarantees". The only fuel they are almost certain to have is white gas (Coleman fuel).

I've found the Windigo and Rock Harbor stores well stocked with the 'MSR style' canisters. In mid-summer that shouldn't be a problem. However, I'd still call the concession stand. If by chance they are out, I have a secret to share: people turn in partially used canisters on both ends of the island before getting on the float plane. There will be a stack of them somewhere. Ask about them if the store is out. The Rock Harbor store gave me a couple of them when I was 'marooned' there for a few days due to a gale in 2009.
