Neoair mattress repair

After several years of use, mu Thermarest Neoair sprung a leak and I slept on the hard ground for my last night out on a recent trip. I found the leak at home and repaired it using the Thermarest kit. The hole was on a crease and I was concerned about getting a good seal, but it seemed to work. Following directions, I placed a pot of hot water over the repair for fifteen minutes. I inflated the mattress and it held for more than 24 hours (although I placed my weight on it only for a few minutes).

So, here is my question: Does anyone have experience with the life of such repairs? Am I being foolish relying on the patch going into the future? (It could be difficult to repair in the field; not impossible, but not ideal either.)

Thanks!
