"What are you spending your REI dividend on?" 2009 edition

Post by fonixmunkee »

Every year for the past four years, I've asked the same question about this time: What are you going to spend your REI dividend on?

This year, I think I'm going to get one of those new MSR Reactor stoves and see if it's any better than a JetBoil (hard to beat!): http://www.rei.com/product/736977

How about everyone else?

Possibly a GPS... We made a lot of purchases for our business on our REI card last year and have about $900 coming back.

Thinking about a new car camping tent, but REI doesn't have what I'm looking at (Eureka Equinox or Mt Hardwear Casa 6).
Maybe a Granite Gear canoe pack. Merrill Jungle Mocs will be the default.

Either the new NeoAir pad from Thermarest or a new water filter.

Of course, the new Osprey Exos pack looks pretty good too. :-)

I haven't gotten my dividend yet---don't think it's going to be much when I DO get it! I did most of my 2008 gear shopping at other online gear stores. I'll probably buy SmartWool socks or some MSR fuel or a couple of Mountain House meals. Big spender, I know

You also have to remember that WHEN dividend checks come out, you get 20% most purchases when you use it...so even if your dividend check is 30 cents, you still get 20% off that item (plus an extra 30 cents off!!).

That's good to know, I didn't know that's how it worked. Either that or I forgot about it.

The 20% off is good for ONE full-priced item--GPS and some other larger items are excluded (like kayaks). Dividends are good for anything.

I'm a big fan of Merrell boots. I'm on my second pair, and love them. The GoreTex ones are bullet-proof.

In August we will be going to IR for the first time and will canoe the inland lakes. What type of boots would you recommend for the portages?
