An Alternate Use for a Dry Bag

Post by Nick »

OK, picture this. I'm at one end of the kitchen counter. My IR menu planner and recipe list is out. I've got a box of dehydrated everything: fruit, mock chow mien, zuchinni, eggplant, summer squash, mushrooms, you get the idea. I'm starting my pre-packing of the food. I've got several dry bags out. My wife has decided to make a 10 pound leg of lamb, with bone it. We've got a three legged golden retriever and the lamb looks like...well you get the idea.

My wife turns to me in frustration and says, "I don't have anything big enough to marinate this thing in!"

I take out an NRS Small Rick Sack....you get the picture.

It fit nicely in the fridge.

As they say...necessity is the mother of invention. And, it's nothing a little water rinse wont cure when you're done.

Now that gets me thinking, I wonder how much a marinated dehydrated leg of lamb weighs...Use the same dry bag to rehydrate said leg while on the trail or water, get to camp and enjoy the feast of feasts, rehydrated leg of lamb. May be a little tricky roasting the lamb on a camp stove though. :P

Ya know, Jon, just let that leg of lamb marinate until you reach one of the camp sites with a fire ring. Then, find some down and dead wood, fire it up and you'll have plenty of room to cook that little delicacy.

You don't have to roast it in camp. Just dehydrate the thing before you leave and fry it up at camp. That way, you don't have to worry about the bone. On the other hand, a well placed lamb bone on Isle Royale....naw!
