It's supposed to be closed mid-June to mid-July - probably best to check on tha status before planning on going there.

Keweenaw:
Thanks for the reminder.
I had read that Lane Cove would be closed. With a "scheduled" re-opening in "mid-July", I was hoping that it would actually be open in mid-august. (This is abnormally optimist of me, I usually figure what will go wrong, will!)

I will definitely make sure that it is open before we leave Rock Harbor.

Thursday: McCargo to Lane Cove
This is the only part I have a comment on: it's a long, hot trek. Be prepared!
I second that but still doable. One thing to remember is there's no water between chickenbone and lane cove so if it's hot, you might run out. I did this same stretch but in reverse and I was rationing the water gulps the second half of the hike.

If Lane cove is open, it's a great place to spend the night. Site are right on the water and it's a loon haven. We might be stopping by on our canoe through at the end of July but not planning on camping.

We are thinking of McCargo to Daisy then on to Lane cove.
That 13 miles sounds intimidating.

With an additional night on the island, we are reviewing the entire hike plan.
I'm torn between covering ground and relaxing in the peace and serenity of the island.

I would vote for relaxing and enjoying the serenity!!

That was part of the original plan.
Short to moderate distances.
Er, except for mis-reading the McCargo to Lane Cove, that is.

My countdowns usually begin again on the ferry ride back to Copper Harbor.

I certainly hope so.
My map and mileage chart are nearly worn through!
With all the suggestions in the forum, I think I finally put togeter a plan that covers most of the east end.

John is right, that is a dang good itinerary. You're also going to see some of the most beautiful spots on the island as well. You'll surely enjoy it :)
