Thanks for the comments fonix & John.

Fonix, you actually caught a mileage mis-calculation on my first (posted) itinerary, between McCargo and Lane. I had mis-read the mileage chart.
If you hadn't caught that, we would have had one helluva day for sure!

This trip was actually planned to be my son's (soon to be) father-in-law. his nephew, my son and myself. The planning was all the father-in-law's.
It was supposed to be a week in July, via the Queen. Then a week in July, via Royale Air.
It was then shortened to only three nights!

My son had to drop out & my best friend and hiking partner joined (He & I were on the island together in 2006 with four Boy Scouts.)

We decided that if we were gonna drive 1200 or so miles, round trip, we wer gonna do a week, for sure.

We started planning, and came up with the first route.
Forum feedback modified the itinerary and finally we settled on what I have posted hear and in "Trip Reports."

The final route lets me complete all the trails east of Chickenbone and west of Rock Harbor.
I also get to hit the "can't miss" (hiking) campsites. I think all I will miss is East Chickenbone, and from what I've read, that is not such a loss.

Eventually, I'd like to hit every trail and every campsite, including the canoe sites.

Glad I could help, that's what the forum is here for, along with all the members. If johnhens or samh, along with a few others had a $1 every time they helped me out, they'd be pretty well off...I can only imagine the kayak johnhens would have...

Completely agreed, I think for safety's sake while driving, for one, and two, you'd owe it to yourselves to take in everything that IR has to offer.

Where you'll be on the island is newer to myself as I've only been there for the last two trips out to IR. However, in my mild professional opinion, there's nothing that can't be handled there. Some of the hikes up to places such at Mt Ojibway can be tough, or coming back up onto the Greenstone out of the Chippewa Lake basin, but nothing that can't be remedied with a 5-minute breather and a well-thought out water supply.

I've been following the evolution of your trip, and I'm excited to see a TR and pictures once you get back!

Five days to go.
The next four days of work are going to be the longest.
Gear is packed, food is set.
A couple of last minute details, then we are off on Friday.

Of course the upside is that I still have a trip to look forward to....which is half the fun.

But I have to admit the build-up is getting a bit old....I'm ready all ready!

Last day of work
2 day(well, 53h, 18m) until we step onto the island.
I think that today may be one of the longest days of the year!

And holy crap, it looks like you're gonna hit the weather-jackpot.

Nothing but sun in the forecast until next effin' Thursday!
