Fishing for Lake Trout in Malone Bay.

Post by Tyak »

Hello everyone, I and a friend will be on the island from 5-11 to 5-19 staying at Malone bay cg. We had planned to hike into Siskiwit and fish but as you all know the inland lakes are all still frozen over. I don't have a lot of experience with lake trout and furthermore fishing in this area. We will have a SUP and a kayak with us.
My question is , can anyone give any tips or advice on fishing in/around Malone bay area for lake trout this early in May. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Note: we are fully aware of the current conditions on the island and will be prepared.

Thanks,
Ty

I assume with a SUP you will have appropriate paddling clothing, a dry suit or farmer john w/ dry top.
There are lots of shallow reefs offshore that would be good for Spring lake trout. I assume you know you need a MI license?
The water is clear and as such should be easy to figure out were the reefs are. You can look at the NOAA chart of IR also.
