New Lotion for Flies?

Post by Midwest Ed »

Here in Northern Illinois, the swarming gnats are still terrible. I am convinced they are genetically programmed to enter every open orifice they can find. I recently posted here that a neighbor uses plain vanilla extract but I after seeing a new lotion in local retailers called Bug Soother I decided to give it a try. It looks to be a fairly new product. The active ingredient is Lemongrass Oil with Vanilla and mineral oil. I've been doing a lot of outdoor painting and this stuff really seems to work.

They still buzzed around a bit but did not land. I couldn't see that it did much for mosquitoes though but I only put on very little. Seems pretty non-toxic but they do say to keep it out of your eyes. Anyway the stuff is made close by in Columbus Junction, Iowa. I'm wondering if it should work just as well for black flies.
