I see it hit a balmy 39 degrees early this morning on Isle Royale. It's been hovering around 45 degrees much of the day. I showed this to my wife, who earlier questioned my decision to pack a down jacket during my trip in two weeks.

Awesome sleeping weather!

I also think high 40s into the low 50s can be an optimum hiking temperature. Bugs tend to be gone, and the dew point is low you're not sweating so bad that it wears you out. Love it!

I agree, Tom. Great sleeping weather! However, I do prefer hiking in mid-to-upper 50's. It's not so chilly when I stop for lunch or a break and rain doesn't sting as much. 80's and 90's is just miserable hiking. Exhausting.

I packed a down "sweater" last year for our early July trip. It was great in the evenings.

Ditto. Down sweater packed as well. Driving to copper harbor tomorrow. My fist trip 3 years ago, we woke to 36 degrees on July 3rd.
Be prepared. ..

Temps last week were a bit higher - lows ranged from 47-52 on my thermometer. Highs were in the 70s each day except Friday which didnt make it out of the 60s.
