Isabelle's necropsy

Post by johnhens »

From the NPS:

An NPS news release today revealed the results of the necropsy on Isabelle, the Isle Royale wolf who crossed the ice bridge to Grand Portage only to die from a pellet-gun wound. The pellet passed between two ribs, causing fatal damage. Pathologists at the Colorado State Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory conducted the necropsy. Remains will be returned to Michigan Tech for further research.

Wow. What BS. I doubt They'll ever catch them but I sure hope they do.

It will be interesting to see if the NPS looks into this, and/or the Reservation folks.

According to http://www.twincities.com/news/ci_25345 ... sle-royale, because no rules were violated, the NPS won't attempt to identify the shooter.
The Reservation has not issued a comment, but I'll guess it might be the same.

I can't say I really disagree, since I don't think there was intentional malintent. The idea of someone just trying to scare her away is very plausible, and given the sacred nature of wolves to Indian tribes, I would doubt the shooter would wish to intentionally kill her.
Unfortunate, fluke of way to go.
