On a related topic, I just read that three wolves have taken up residence on Michipicoten Island, in eastern Lake Superior. Isle Royale and Michipicoten have similar habitat, vegetation and geology, with the main difference being that Michipicoten has a population of woodland caribou, not moose. It will be interesting to see how that plays out.

At a glance, it looks like wolves could make a pretty good living on Michipicoten. It seems to roughly equate in size to an area that 1 pack would control when there were 3 packs on IR.

it's sad to see the IR results. I've come to hope that they introduce new wolves.

Amazing how quickly the decline occurred. This truly saddens me. Part of the magic of IR was the slight chance one might possibly hear or see one of these beautiful creatures. Of course, this is very bad news for the moose population and the eventual destruction of some plant life due to overfeeding. I support re-introduction, although I don't see that happening. So glad I'll hike amongst them at least one more time...
