For those the love the call and flight of sandhill cranes, I thought I would post this about Operation Migration.
It is the effort to reintroduce Whooping Cranes. Young cranes are hacked at Necedah NWR in Wisconsin. They are trained to follow ultralight aircraft "disguised" as Adult whoopers. They follow a route down to Florida where they winter and return on their own in the Spring, having learned the migration route in the Fall. Perhaps we will see them on Isle Royale some day.
