2020 Moose numbers

Post by johnhens »

The lates Wolf's Eye (From IRKPA) talks about a new moose survey that puts the moose numbers on IR at 584. I think there is a discrepancey between that and the 2020 numbers which has the population closer to 2000.

Interesting. It sounds like the Park Service used a different sampling method. 584 is a long way from the about 1,900 mentioned in the 2020 Moose/Wolf report. I'm sure we'll hear more about this now the researchers are back on the island.

I think it had to do with when the survey was done (where there leaves on the trees? No snow making it harder to see moose. Sounds like more surveys will be done this season and the results compared.
