May 14 Mid-island run

reading that I feel like so much less of a man

I would consider that a serious day of backpacking on its own, let alone to RUN it. I tap out after five miles on flat terrain.

Regarding the comment in your trip report about running the entire Greenstone Ridge Trail sometime soon, you might be interested in the efforts of one runner (Eric) who stopped by the these forums in 2012. He set a new record of 8 hr : 47 min : 37 sec in July of 2012. He classified it as a "soft" record, meaning he thought it was quite beatable.

Thanks Midwest Ed. I remember reading those, as well as the magazine article about the ranger and his brother who did Rock Harbor to Windigo. Both are admirable times and runs. I think if I were to do it I would run Rock Harbor to Windigo as opposed to Eric's route to keep the logistics simpler. It's a run that's been in my head some time now.

I get it now. The run when getting off of the boat was a story in itself. I don't know why that was made to be the case, I mean doesn't everyone do a marathon type of jog out of the excitement of finally step foot on the island. They made it out to be like it wasn't common-place or something
