I remember over the last few years when the lake level was down so low... It felt like a lot of these fears in this article would be realized. It was terrifying hearing Captain Don saying that the Wenonah couldn't make the run to Isle Royale because it couldn't even get into the harbor in Grand Portage.

If the lake didn't exist, I wouldn't live in the area. I couldn't imagine waking up and not seeing it every morning. I couldn't imagine how boring the weather would be that Lake Superior randomly whips up; I don't want to think what I'd do with myself without the copious amounts of snow in the UP the lake provides; and I can't imagine what all the locals with their "HOME" t-shirts with Lake Superior emblazoned on them--or tattoos of said lake on their forearms--would do as well.
