Thanks John,

After reading about The America I noticed an older article at the same magazine's website reflecting on the history of the Isle Royale Queen. The interesting factoid I just learned was that the predecessor to the Isle Royale Queen family (I, II III and now IV) was a boat named the Copper Queen. The original Queen could not be certified by the Coast Guard as a passenger ferry so in 1955 it was sold and (very interestingly) rechristened as the original Voyageur I operating out of Grand Portage.

I discovered Howard Sivertson and his works last week at the monument in Grand Portage. I ordered a couple of his books yesterday. I'm really looking forward to reading them.

Reading stories about the America and its role on the island is even more profound after spending time there among the fishing homes/history. I also enjoy the detail of the community vibe that exists of those who still remain "living" on Isle Royale.

I didn't know that that big-ass dock in Hovland was an America dock. That's cool.
