Wilderness and Backcountry Management Plan

Post by johnhens »

The NPS has released the Final Draft of the Backcountry and Wilderness Management Plan. This plan will govern the use of Isle Royale by it's Visitors during their respective stay. It will also be a template the NPS will use in Management decisions that affect the Park. There will be a 30 day Comment Period where the Public can voice final opinions on the plan. The NPS will read your comments (I know from personal experience). This is your oppurtunity to have a final say about the direction the NPS is to take relating to your time on IR. If you decide not to comment, it is interesting to read the Plan.

This is a very long document, and while the comment period has come and gone, I recommend anyone who uses the park to at least skim the headings to see what's in store for you.

There are a number of changes in the works, and not all of them are positive for all the different groups that use the park.
