Now that is a great idea! It seems to me, Shelly might absorb it and not wait for the Goshawks for direction.
Really, print out the channels list and it is a no problem. You will find the channels if you are patient. Maybe give it to her. and sleep in!

I think you nailed it Mike. I made a photocopy of the channels (they had a two page list in the manual) and planned to shrink the copy and laminate it. Otherwise, it's just the fanciest walkie talkie I have ever owned.
Here are some You Tube videos on VHF radio use that are helpful and short.
Thanks Ernest I am going to watch those tomorrow and take as much as I can get from them. Ill also make a photocopy of the channels like you suggests. And as Mike said, Shelly is going to try to read up on this as much as possible on the ride up to the ferry. T-minus 3 days before we depart.
Rafiki,
Thanks for sharing your TR. I noticed on your first page that you're gettting "old". I started backpacking after hurting myself in a car accident. I didn't want to have a doctor practice medicine on my back. So in my 50s I started training to go hiking in the Grand Canyon, on the App. Trail (Shen.NP), Superior Hiking Trail and Isle Royale. So far no cuts on the back. When you get to be my age, I think you'll be still trying to do a hike or two. The old man, jerry
