I found what might be a bug. When I enter an east-to-west plan, starting at Rock_Harbor_Dock, I can go:
Rock_Harbor_Dock
Rock_Harbor_Campground
Suzys_Cave
Tobin_Harbor_Suzys_Cave_Junction
Tobin_Harbor_Mount_Franklin_Junction

But coming from the other direction I can't get farther than Suzys_Cave:

...
Tobin_Harbor_Mount_Franklin_Junction
Tobin_Harbor_Suzys_Cave_Junction
Suzys_Cave

and at that point my options are Three_Mile_Campground or back to Tobin_Harbor_Suzys_Cave_Junction, not on to Rock_Harbor_Campground as the east-to-west path suggests.

Now I'm pretty sure I'll be able to find my way from Suzys_Cave to Rock_Harbor_Dock without a piece of paper, but I would like to get it punched in correctly. Am I just doing something wrong?

I'm traveling and can't check it now, but will when I get home. Probably Tues.

Tedd, "Yes" you found a bug! Should be fixed now, but you will need to start over from the public spreadsheet. Thanks for letting me know!

Whoa! since I started using Google Drive, I decided to play with this and find it to be very useful to compare different scenarios...now to convince my hiking partner that by adding a few more miles and a few more hours of hiking we can knock out the Feldtman loop along with our Minong/Greenestone route. Thank you Ingo for developing this.

Updated link that forces you to make a copy first (which is required to use). Again, note that you need a Google account to use, since it resides on Google Drive/Sheets.

I am new to using this type of spreadsheet. I am doing something wrong. I want to go 8/18-8/22. I am not following any trail but I want to see if landing in rock harbor going to camp 13 hiking to 18 the next day, 6 or 5 the day after that and hiking back to he harbor on the 22 is doable. But I can't plug in any of these sites. Can anyone help me on this?

Natasha, it's set up for trail segments so you need to add each part as you go. Click the little down arrow in your last place in the Waypoint column to see where you can go next. If you're not familiar with the trails, you most likely will need to have a map nearby to reference. Note that you have to make a copy for yourself before you start. It's not ideal--just a little project I originally did for my own use.

haha, Without a usable map one has to guess on every data point since my destination from point A to point B is not an option. And since I didn't 'double' entry for "camp" it doesn't show that. So with no 'camp' days, it took 25 entries to get from Rock Harbor to 3 mile to Lake Richie to W Chickenbone to Lane Cove and back to Rock Harbor. And I still am not sure if the waypoints are correct. But my mileage 'guess' from the chart shows only a couple tenths difference in mileage. There are no serviceable maps on the internet it seems. After 'figuring' out how to use the spreadsheet - still guessing tho - it seems to be pretty accurate. All of the "junctions/waypoints" are purely guesses but without a map... are there any maps that actually show such detail on trails/junctions etc.? Thanks for putting this together.

I agree, it's surprisingly hard to find a good, well-labeled IR map online. I use Acme Mapper in Topo mode. (That link takes you to a view centered on Daisy Farm.) This shows the trails, labeled, and campgrounds -- not 100% up to date, but not bad either.

It's worth ordering the Trails Illustrated (National Geographic) map to have in front of you when planning (and then take it with you on the island).

The waypoint junctions use the trail names on the NG Trails Illustrated map. FWIW, I too get confused sometimes, but usually have a map handy (on my office wall, or next to the recliner at home). For campsite to campsite distances, you can also use this chart https://www.nps.gov/isro/planyourvisit/ ... vidual.pdf.

Thanks for the online mapper. I used to use one but it's not as good as Acme.
I notice the topo map loaded is showing 2 Feldtman trails. The Eastern one was abandoned quite some time ago. I'm sure most of it is under water now as that area had many boardwalks.
