Newbies - 6 day 5 night on the Island

Post by Renegadesnowman64 »

Looking for recommendations for a 6 day 5 night hike on the Island. Looking at 1st or 2nd week in Sept for Myself, wife and my wife's best friend (female) we are in our late 40's to early 50's in average shape / condition for this trip. We are already starting to hike with backs on and weighted to get us in shape. Would appreciate any feedback or shared experiences.

Thanks much

Which boat are you planning to take? The Voyageur II gives you the most options.

Renegadesnowman64,

Welcome! As Ingo alluded to, your route of transportation to the island is a significant factor in determining your arrival point and then the possible trails.

Are you arriving via the UP or Grand Portage? Flying or boating?

The best part about IR is that you're not locked into one itinerary, even the one you initially brief with the Ranger when obtaining your permit, so you have some flexibility once you start hiking.

Ping back with your preliminary plans when you get a chance.
It's not Heaven, but they can see IR from there...
