Late August 5 night - 6 day Trip!

Post by Trekman »

Looking for an itinerary for a 5 night, 6 day trip starting at Rock Harbor. My group is experienced and we are all in above average shape.

Any suggestions/sample itinerary would be appreciated!

Welcome to the forums.

To help s help you: What boat are you coming in on? How many in your group? How much backpacking experience does your group have (particularity the least experienced)? When are you going?

More questions: will you need time for fishing, photography, side hikes, etc, or the other extreme would be your group desires to hike from dawn to dusk and cover the maximum possible miles. Which end of the island are you most intrigued by?

Hey there, we will be coming from Copper Harbor and are experienced backpackers. Looking for the best spots on the island. Not saving time for fishing but interested in Side hikes. There are 4 of us total

There are many "best" spots depending on what you like, but some of the accepted highlights could be strung together in an energetic 5-night hike along the lines of: Daisy Farm via RH trail, McCargoe Cove, Todd Harbor, W. Chickenbone via Hatchet Lake, 3-Mile via Greenstone (Ojibay Tower) and Mt. Franklin trail, arrive RH early enough to dayhike Scoville Pt. I think this puts your longest day around 14 miles and most days more like 7-10 miles, and very little backtracking. McCargoe to Todd is the short leg, you could always continue on to Hatchet Lake but Todd Harbor is a gorgeous campsite and usually good swimming, and there are things to explore around there.
