I checked out that powder house on my trip as well. Spectacular ruins, and I'm glad to see some preservation too. I've seen successful mines on the mainland with smaller powder houses -- I wonder what possessed them to make such a large structure.

My buddies and I were just there a few days ago. This was my second time visiting the site.

Looks like our paths never crossed, dcclark. Maybe another time.ImageImageImage

We were fortunate enough to see it a couple years back when they were there working on it. Very cool find and we enjoyed talking with the workers there.

I'm pretty sure we spent a very pleasant evening telling stories around the fire pit at Siskiwit! I just didn't put two and two together until later.

Oh my gosh! That was you and your wife? So, I guess we did cross paths! How awesome was that?! Two hours in front of the fire discussing the finer points of backpacking and Michigan copper mines and history. That was so much fun, and I never put two and two together and thought it was you. My buddies and I agreed that that was one of the highlights of our trip... the campfire conversations with an awesome couple.

Haha, we had the same experience! My wife and I also thought that evening was one of the highlights of our trip. Hope the rest of yours went well -- we spent the next two days at Feldtmann dodging moose who walked through our campsite.

What??!! Are you kidding me?

We didn't see a single moose the entire time we were on the island!

I really wanted my buddy, Dane, to see a moose since he was in from Pennsylvania and had never been to the island before.

Well, I'm happy you and Sara saw them.

Yep, seriously. Two young bulls were walking up and down the beach and through the campsites morning and evening. We thought of you guys! It's the only place we saw any moose on our trip.
