TR 5/24/23 - 5/28/23 Feldtmann Loop
I had really hoped to post my trip report here last year. Unfortunately, I couldn't find the time or the inspiration to write because I was thrown an unexpected curveball last June that consumed my entire summer and lasted into this year. So, I will forego the written post and leave you with the following. Stay tuned for a full trip report in the next couple of weeks.....

Looking forward to it. I noticed side trips to Rainbow Cove, the Island Mine powderhouse, and maybe Island Mine itself!

Winner, winner!dcclark wrote:Looking forward to it. I noticed side trips to Rainbow Cove, the Island Mine powderhouse, and maybe Island Mine itself!
Yes... Rainbow Cove to kill two birds with one stone (save time the next morning and to get a break from the cold and strong, incessant wind), the powderhouse on Senter Point, and then a refill of water near a stream not far from the Island Mine campsites.

Thank you! It was nice seeing you along the trail, as well. Meeting and having conversations with fellow backpackers has always been one of the things that makes trips enjoyable!Bobcat1 wrote:Nice report! It was fun to see you guys at so many familiar places along your route.

Thanks for the look at your visit!
You've almost convinced me to spend a week at Huginnin Cove this fall.

Also! What can you tell me about the use of a twig stove ON TOP of a picnic table? It has never occurred to me to try.

Can't remember where I read it, but it said twig stoves were ok to use.Kelly wrote:Also! What can you tell me about the use of a twig stove ON TOP of a picnic table? It has never occurred to me to try.

Yes, they are permitted on Isle Royale. But I've never used one on top of a picnic table.

Nice video! It was great to meet you guys, and I think of that visit around the Siskiwit fire ring as a highlight of our trip too.
Also, I've never seen anybody make a fire as fast as you three! It was like watching a dedicated fire-starting team. I guess the cold and wind helped make that happen.
Sincerely,
- the folks who got the last shelter.

Thanks for the great video trip report! But no moose?!? Or just didn't make the video? They were all over the place when I was at Feldtmann the same time of year.

It's difficult to believe that it has already been one year since we set foot on the island, and tomorrow, May 25th, will be the day we arrived at Siskiwit Bay and enjoyed the fire and conversation with you two. It is one of the highlights of our trip!
As for the fire starting, I think you two did the difficult part... gathering and separating the wood into various piles.
Thanks again for the amazing evening, it will long be remembered with fondness!
